Ian Renard player coach

Ian started playing Rugby at Rugby Lions aged 11 years old. He progressed through the age groups as a youngster and as a child was a proud Rugby Lion supporter.  Ian went on to represent Warwickshire from U17s-20s. Ian first trained with the Lions 1st XV aged 17 and also made his debut for the 1st XV in some pre -season games under the guidance of Brett Taylor.

Ian moved away whilst studying for a degree in Sports Coaching Science at Worcester University and played in the Student Premiership for 2 years. During this time Ian also gained valuable experience and was lucky enough to be selected to work as a Rugby Analyst at the Rugby World Cup 2007 on behalf of the International Rugby Board. He also gained experience by working at Worcester Warriors working with and assisting the Head Performance Analyst in analysing the 1st XV.

Ian decided to take up a full time role as a Rugby Analyst working for the world leaders in rugby analysis OPTA Sports. During this time Ian was a part of the Harrogate RFC 1st XV who at the time were in National 2 North. A move back to the Midlands beckoned and Ian decided to take up a post at Moulton College as Head Coach of the Ladies AASE Rugby Academy whilst also assisting as skills coach for the AASE Northampton Saints Academy students. During his two years here Ian played for his beloved home town club The Rugby Lions in National 2 before embarking on a move to Broadstreet in National 3 for the 2011/12 season and also going on to represent the East Midlands County team. Last season saw Ian move on to become a Community Rugby Coach for the Rugby Football Union covering Bedfordshire, Hunts & Peterborough, playing for Kettering RFC whilst also playing when he could in friendlies for Rugby Lions. In February last year Ian left Kettering and coached and played for the Lions in the friendlies until the end of the season.

A memorable moment for Ian in a Rugby Lions shirt was lining up at fullback opposite the former British & Irish Lion & England player Jason Robinson and having to also deal with Nick Royle England 7s winger!

Ian will be a player-coach this season and is looking forward to being able to share his knowledge and develop the talent within the Lions team and at 26 years old still hoping to perform for the 1st XV on the pitch!
