Higgins and Paxton to Lead Lions' 2025-2026 Campaign
RUGBY, UK – 5 September 2025 – Rugby Lions RFC have today announced their new leadership team for the upcoming 2025-2026 season, appointing dynamic scrum-half Joe Higgins as Club Captain, with formidable prop Charlie Paxton named as his Vice-Captain.

The appointments come as the Lions prepare for a demanding season following their hard-earned promotion last spring. The leadership duo represents a perfect blend of tactical intelligence from the backs and uncompromising strength from the front row.

Higgins, the pivotal link between the forwards and backs, expressed his pride in taking on the new role. "It's a massive honour to be named captain," he stated. "We achieved something special last season, and the spirit in this squad is incredible. We're under no illusions about the challenge ahead, but we've been working hard pre-season, and we're ready to prove we belong at this level. I can't wait to lead the lads out."

Supporting him will be the experienced and powerful Paxton, a cornerstone of the Lions' pack. "I'm thrilled to be supporting Joe," said Paxton. "My job is to help set the platform up front and ensure we give our backs the best possible opportunity to play. The entire club is buzzing for the new season, and we're determined to meet the physical challenge head-on."

The new leadership duo will not have to wait long for their first test, as the Lions kick off their league campaign this weekend. They are set to face Northampton Casuals at home on Saturday, 6th September, in what promises to be a thrilling start to the new season.

Adding to the pre-season excitement, the club is also delighted to announce a new major partnership with Camden Brewery, who will be the official club sponsors for the 2025-2026 season. Fans will be able to enjoy a selection of their renowned craft beers at the clubhouse throughout the year, starting with this Saturday's home opener. The club is thrilled to welcome them aboard.
