TEAMs

our teams

The Rugby Football Club’s history goes back to 1867 when it started off with 50 members and headquarters at Clifton Road, Rugby. It was formally registered with the Rugby Football Union in 1873 with its base at Webb Ellis Road.

Alongside, Town House and the England national team, Rugby Football Club are the only other team to have the honour of playing in white shirts. The Rugby Football Club is also unique in that it bears the name of the game itself. No other Club has that honour. For more on the club's history, visit or History Page.

Sponsorship is the lifeblood of any club, no more so than at the ‘Home of Rugby Football’ where we promote Rugby’s core values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship. If you would like to learn more about Sponsorship oportunities, please visit our Sponsorship Page.

Play at the ‘Home of Rugby Football’

Our club runs a senior men’s and women’s teams – The Lions & Lionesses plus a Minis and Juniors section. Whatever age or gender, you will be made most welcome.

Contact us on 01788 334466 or 07852 903212 or just email.

We play at Webb Ellis Road, with the seniors training at 7pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the M&J’s on Sunday mornings. Thursday evening’s training is usually a Club member’s night, followed by wholesome food from the Lions kitchen and suitable camaraderie.

Games are usually on Saturdays for the men and Sundays for the Lionesses. We have a floodlit pitch, excellent changing rooms with showering facilities and a dedicated Coaching and support staff.

A suitably equipped gym is on site adjoining the changing rooms -  for Lionesses and the Lions players. We plan to recruit a suitably qualified fitness instructor to oversee fitness programmes for all our members. Senior players also have access to the adjoining Everlast Fitness Centre including use of the Sauna, Jacuzzi and a full size swimming pool.

Complete with a grandstand capacity and a club house suitable for our supporters, the Lions boast one of the finest sporting facilities in the Midlands.

Adorn the iconic Lions badge. Each playing member is also provided with playing kit and top quality leisure stash worthy of over 150 years of history at the ‘Home of Rugby Football’.

With the club’s background, history and facilities, players have the perfect setting to thrive and excel as sportsmen and women.

Calling all former Lions players! Come and join the Pride and keep in touch with old friends and colleagues.

We are compiling a data base of all our former players. Whatever your age, please email us giving us your contact details, address, phone number and playing period at the Lions. We would like the opportunity of keeping you informed of what is happening at the Lions and the whereabouts of your ex-colleagues. There will also be opportunities to welcome you to Webb Ellis Road for reunions and social events.
